Henryk Oskar Kolberg was born on February 22nd, 1814 in Przysucha in the Opoczno district in Poland. He was born to the family of Juliusz Kolberg, the engineer of cartography that came to Poland from Prussia in 1796, and Karolina Mercoeur who came from a French family and was born near Warsaw.
