The third part of the regional monograph concerns the northern area of the former Grand Duchy of Poznań and it includes Pałuki, a sub region of Great Poland; western edge of Kujawy in the neighborhood of Inowrocław and Krajna near Wyrzysk; and finally an area in the north-west, populated by an ethnographic group of "Mazovians of Wieleń”. The volume contains a topographic and historic characteristics of the country, within the nine districts which existed at that time, of the population of the territory, its costumes, food, houses, occupations, customs, rites and games. It is worth mentioning about the most elaborate chapter on rites, which includes 11 descriptions of weddings with 85 songs. The material in the volume comes, analogically to part 1 and 2 of the monograph, from three sources: predominantly from Kolberg’s own notes, supported by records and information from his co-workers; partly from the questionnaires of the Polish Society of Friends of Sciences; and also from literature. The illustration appended to the volume presents peasant costumes according to the drawing by B. Hoff.
