The second part of the monograph contains universal songs, dances and melodies without texts. As many as 662 songs (402 with melodies) and over 100 melodies with several descriptions of dances were published in the volume. All of the melodies were recorded in the field by Kolberg; most of the song texts also come from Kolberg’s notes. A small number of them constitute excerpts from printed sources. The nineteenth-century repertoire of songs of the Polish and Ukrainian ethnic groups is the richest collection of them from that region in our ethnographic literature.
