Głuchy

Głuchy is a village located in the Wyszkowo district. In the past it was called Lasków Głuchy. Here, in 1821, the Polish poet, Cyprian Kamil Norwid was born. As a young poet he used to come back here with friends from the ‘Warsaw Bohemia’; Oskar Kolberg was probably one of them. Even though, Kolberg writes only about trips near Warsaw (in the company of Cyprian’s brother, Ludwik) the amount of field manuscripts from Głuchy provides evidence that the author of ‘The People’ conducted some research here.

Kolberg documented dozens of different songs from the village. In addition, he described a wedding in 1843. The account starts with the invitation to the wedding. The bridegroom with his best man walked through the village inviting people to the wedding.
