The first time when Kolberg visited Czech Republic was in 1829, when he was 15 years old, later he went there as a novice scientist in 1841.

His modest material on this region includes works of Andrzej Kucharski, a philologist and a Slavdom scholar, and Wacław Dunder, a Czech translator and ethnographer. Only a small part of this material was collected by Kolberg.

It is probably that he collected this limited source material during his trip to the Tatras, Pieniny, the Beskids, and Podhale. Kolberg interest in this region was small not only because of his rare contacts with the area, but also because after the years he focused more on the culture of former Commonwealth.
