Oskar Kolberg described Chmielnik:
"The town of Chmielnik is known for a memorable defeat of the Poles at the time of Boleslaw the Chaste. The church found by the Oleśnicki family was consecrated by Bodzant. In the past there was a Calvinist church and school, which had John Lublanin as a rector".
In Chmielnik Kolberg collected many songs related to marriage and wedding.
